Sustainable Arts and Media

This exciting new addition to Wheatley Park School comprises eight general teaching classrooms with staff offices on two storeys together with two linked multi purpose media rooms.

The key to this building is a curving timber clad wall that forms the enclosure to a flexible social space with randomly placed slit windows framing views to the hills to the north of the site. A highly sustainable design which is heated via ground source heating and features a ‘green’ roof, rainwater harvesting and passive natural ventilation.

The main two storey core social space with overlooking first floor balcony is designed not only as the heart of the building bringing daylight into the building but as a flexible space in which classroom activities can break out in informal ways.

  • Sustainable building that is easy to operate
  • Dynamic external form adding a new gateway to the school
  • Exciting internal spaces encouraging interaction
  • Colourful environment using natural materials
