Contemporary Twist in a Traditional Setting

Oxford Architects were approached by Highfield Developments to undertake design work for the demolition of an existing office and the construction of 13 residential apartments and one retail unit on a waterside setting in Newbury.

Situated in the heart of Newbury and overlooking the Kennet & Avon Canal the brief was to design a mixed use scheme comprising a small retail unit to the West Mills elevation with the remainder of the site given over to waterside residential apartments. The design takes careful consideration of the tight constraints imposed on the site by both the canal frontage and the adjoining owners.

The completed project is a mixture of 1 and 2 bed properties in a largely white cubist aesthetic with large windows and balconies affording views and connection onto the canal.

All units were sold and the project generated the highest sales values/sqm on record in the area.
