Creating Social Space
The main hall at this school is used for a variety of activities - assemblies, drama teaching, dining and events but was not large enough to take the whole school. Oxford Architects were appointed to extend the hall and incorporate a new entrance.
The extension sits under a double curved roof with high level clerestory windows providing good natural ventilation and light. The outside wall is finished in coloured render and punctuated with random windows in coloured glass. The design reflects a social environment rather than just a dining spaces encouraging pupils to interact and engage socially.
