Public Consultation for New Barnstaple 'Market Quarter'

North Devon Council has ambitions plans to transform the town through the creation of the ‘Market Quarter’, a new destination in the heart of Barnstaple. Oxford Architects are leading the design team in developing the regeneration of four key elements:

1)Pannier Market and Guildhall: Reinventing and diversifying the market into a flexible space for a more varied and ambitious programme of markets, events, and community gatherings.

2) Boutport Street Development: Restoring the historic 36/37 Boutport Street into an exciting mixed-use development of workspace and town centre living, and creating a vital pedestrian gateway to the town

3) Queen Street Access: Changing and improving the main vehicular access routes into the Queen Street car park and redesigning the layout to create a clear pedestrian pathway to the town

4) Butchers’ Row and Cross Street: Pedestrianising the most distinctive street in our town between 10am and 4pm, allowing traders to spill onto the street and visitors to eat and drink al fresco. This will connect the historic core of our town to our riverfront

Oxford Architects were pleased to be part of this community involvement event and shared views and ideas with the public and received feedback which will help us understand the best way to develop the proposals.
